FITNESS
LR: Please tell the readers about yourself and your past: Lisa: I live in Chicopee, Massachusetts and am the mother of two boys. As a child I spent time riding horses and participating in dance. Now, I spend my time clowning around on a Tri-Fitness play ground. I love it so much I built my own matching playground! Is that over the top or what? In addition, I have formed a team in the New England area so we bond, train and participate in an event which is empowering and FUN, the Tri-Fitness Challenge. LR: How long have you been doing the Tri-Fitness and what got you started? Lisa: It all started in 2002 at the Tri-Fitness Challenge held in Washington, D.C. I had no idea what to expect but enjoyed every moment and placed in all the events plus came in 3rd overall. I?m so grateful that a competition like Women?s Tri-Fitness was around; I had been competing in several other organizations for a few years before I found WTF. The Women?s Tri-Fitness is the best and most rewarding because stop watches don?t lie. It was something I could challenge myself with and see results.
This month we will feature Katie Uter-Normand and Lisa Thomas who have achieved a high level of success in the Tri-Fitness World Challenge during the past decade.
LR: What do you like best about the Tri-Fitness? Lisa: Tri-Fitness is a respectable organization. I have been to so many competitions and defi nitely have seen all types of promoters yet fi nd Al Rosen to be extremely fair and honest. It is so much fun training for Tri-Fitness. You have to train for speed, strength, fl exibility and endurance. The by-product of this type of training is a fi t, athletic, and lean physique. Competing at the actual event is the reward after all the training. When I attend an event, I am amazed to see how all the competitors cheer for each other. When friends attend they ask, isn?t it strange to cheer for the people you are competing against? As a mother of two boys, I think my sons have learned a lot by watching this event and how one prepares, competes and appreciates all that?s involved. LR: How did you go about training for the Tri-Fitness? Lisa: It is a year round training regimen for me. Every time I lift, I focus on how the exercise I am doing will benefi t me in preparation for the competition. I look for the functional and interval training programs then customize them to fi t the needs of the 10 foot wall, monkey bars, or even the back half of the race. I could go on and on about the training because it is my favorite part!

LR: Would you like to add anything else for our readers? Lisa: I have found Tri-Fitness a growing experience for me which I very much respect and enjoy. Passing on my knowledge and experiences to others is rewarding because I love helping others create and reach their own personal goals. To any reader out there who wishes to challenge themselves in an extreme sport and is looking for something to actually train for ? the Tri-Fitness is your answer! Natural Muscle April 2010 45
