A HAcHnAsAs sefer TorAH in THe snow
LAkewood MesivTA BrAves eLeMenTs To rejoice wiTH THe TorAH
On Sunday afternoon, during the heart of the great snowstorm of 2010, the hanhallah and talmidim were out on the streets of Lakewood. They didn't let a little snow get in the way of joyously celebrating the completion of a new Sefer Torah. The Torah was donated to the Mesivta by R' Pinchos Yurowitz and family. The final letters were written in the Yurowitz home on Laurelwood Ave. The BMG Roshei Yeshivas were among the large crowd that participated and wrote letters. The Torah was then led through the storm accompanied by much lively singing and dancing. The Rosh Yeshiva, Rav Tzvi Yosef Bursztyn shlita, the hanhallah and the talmidim of the yeshiva were joined in the snow by many local baalebatim and friends. The procession ended in the Torah's new home, the Lakewood Mesivta bais medrash on Kennedy Blvd. where more dancing took place. The event was graced with the presence of the Slobodke Rosh Yeshiva, Harav Moshe Hillel Hirsch shlita, who addressed the crowd. It is worth noting that the snowstorm barely affected the talmidim of the Mesivta at all. The Bais Medrash was full at all times throughout the blizzard, on Sunday and Monday, and through the aftermath on Tuesday. It is obvious that the budding talmidei chachamim of Lakewood Mesivta do not believe in ever letting a little thing like a snow storm interfere with their Torah!

By G Heller This past week, the Lakewood kehilla was privileged with a visit from one of the foremost talmidim of the Rosh Hayeshiva, Maran Rav Aharon zt"l, Hagaon Rav Moshe Hillel Hirsch shlita, Rosh Yeshivas Slobodke-Bnei Brak. Rav Hirsch was in Lakewood over Shabbos and on Sunday and delivered shiurim and shmuessim in several locations. Rav Hirsch davened on leil Shabbos in Khal Chassidim and delivered divrei Torah to the mispalelim. On Shabbos morning he davened in Bais Mordechai and spoke there as well. He davened Shabbos minchah and led a warm shallosh seudos, replete with much Torah and zemiros, in Bais Medrash Kol Aryeh. Rav Hirsch led a sheves achim tish on leil Shabbos, attended by a very large crowd, in the home of Mr. Moshe Yona Weingarten, on W. Kennedy Blvd. During the gathering, Rav Hirsch delivered an in-depth shiur on the Parshah. On Motzoei Shabbos, a Melave Malka was held in Kol Aryeh for Rav Hirsch's many local talmidim. The Melave Malka was addressed by Rav Hirsch, as well as by Rav Uren Reich, Rosh Yeshivas Woodlake Village. Rav Reich stated that although he is not technically a talmid of Rav Hirsch, having never leant in Slobodke, he considers himself a talmid nonetheless. This is because whenever he has a difficult problem, either in learning or in chinuch related issues, he picks up the phone and calls Rav Hirsch. Rav Uren averred that he has spent countless hours on the line with Rav Hirsch receiving advice and hadracha and that many other Roshei Yeshiva do so as well. On Sunday morning, Rav Hirsch davened in Yeshivas Chemdas HaTorah (Rav Moshe Pruzanski's Yeshiva) and addressed the bochurim after davening. He stated that he was very impressed with the sincere davening and diligent learning of the bochurim. On Sunday afternoon, he attended the Hachnasas Sefer Torah for the Lakewood Mesivta and spoke to the crowd that braved the elements to attend. www.lakewoodshopper.com · 732-367-6245 · The lakewood shopper
