The NAR T2? System was developed to address the new standardized triage technique designed as a uniformed model for all disaster triage tools. SALT (Sort-Assess-Life Saving Interventions-Treatment/and or Transport) was developed as a national all-hazards mass casualty initial triage standard to be utilized for all patients (adults, children, and special populations). SALT was designed to allow agencies to easily incorporate it into their current MCI triage protocol through simple modification. Its use will decrease confusion when multiple agencies respond to disaster incidents. This field triage decision scheme, originally developed by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma, was revised by an expert panel representing emergency medical services, emergency medicine, trauma surgery and public health.
