It took six meetings, but there is now a definition to what a Kanien?kehá:ka great grandparent is in relation to the Kahnawake Membership Law. Consensus was reached at a Community Decision Making Process hearing on the Membership Law?s proposed amendments on Tuesday night at the Golden Age Club. The word Sha?teienkwenhsí:ien means a person who has half blood. However, the consensus was reached that this term, under this law would be defined as ?used for male or female, meaning he or she is made up of half Onkwehón:we lineage and half of another culture.? At last week?s meeting a preliminary consensus was reached that stated the term would mean someone who has at least 47 percent blood quantum. The 15 or so community members at Tuesday?s
