Right Place at The Right Time

Sonora, Mexico is a totally different world than where I live in northeast British Columbia, Canada - especially in January! This was the main reason that my friend and guiding partner, Blaine Trenholm, and I took our clients? requests to go down to old Mexico and fi nd them some good ranches where they could have an opportunity at killing some of the great mule deer and coues deer bucks that the country is reputed to have. Being in the guiding business, HUNTING ILLUSTRATED.com we get to meet some wonderful people from all over this world. In the course of meeting different people, you have the opportunity to explore different deals. And, making deals was how this whole story unfolds. With our busy guiding season at Tracks BC behind us, it was time to head to the home of the grey ghost and search out some monsters. We bid our lovely families goodbye, and crossed our fi ngers that everything would go well on our ranches while we were gone. One of our clients who had been hunting spring grizzly with us mentioned that he was going to Mexico on a mule deer hunt. The ranch he was going to only gave out two permits, he was using one which left one permit available. Well, that was all Blaine and I needed to hear.
