Chinese engineering group, Dadi Engineering Development Group, has bought a stake in a local project-engineering firm, ProMet Engineers Africa. The company, to be known as ProMet Dadi Africa, has already won a contract for the engineering and procurement portions of a major gold mine in Kyrgyzstan. The new capability of ProMet Dadi Africa affords more than 2 000 project managers, as well as professional engineers for mining projects in the African marketplace. ProMet Dadi Africa can now undertake lump-sum turnkey contracts of up to US$300-million directly on its combined balance sheet. In an engineering procurement and construction-management environment, advanced processes will allow for utilisation of the full engineering capability across disciplines. This will be complemented by speedy execution, group procurement and efficient design capabilities, as well as familiar project procedures and management techniques. Commenting on this development, Rob Bennett, MD of ProMet Dadi Africa, says: "With increasing Chinese investment in African-based resource projects, familiarity with a significant Chinese capability and marketplace is becoming ever more necessary. Africa has long been a leader in project execution, management and engineering, and this development allows ProMet Dadi Africa to bring global efficiencies to projects in a well-managed and structured manner. We have already seen projects which are struggling to pass the hurdle in higher cost environments become reinvigorated by this approach; presenting Bearing Man Group 35 BKB Dust Suppression Solutions 23 Bridgestone South Africa 12 Chevron South Africa 3 Concrete Pumps 13 Dakota Mining & Quarry Equipment 22 Dunlop Industrial Products 45 Dust-A-Side 42 Eskom 14 ESP Africa IBC Exhibition Management Services 25 [56] MINING MIRROR NOVEMBER 2011

significant savings in capital and project execution. We are also pleased that this transaction provides a portal for South African capabilities in markets historically closed to us. Interestingly, our first project after the merger was a study for an American coal company looking to invest in China. ProMet offered certain project-management skills from South Africa. The company has completed a number of significant projects, including 30 open-cut and underground mining projects, design and supply of over 70 coal-processing plants (CPPs) and three water slurry treatment-plant projects. Over 30 of the CPP projects were turnkey operations, and over 10 are operated and maintained by the Dadi group. ProMet provides project management, process-plant design and consultancy services to the metallurgical and process industries. It has more than 80 employees and, as a minerals processing-orientated design house, all employees come from a metallurgical and engineering-design, materials-handling and project-execution background. The core expertise lies in providing process-oriented solutions to the mineralsprocessing industry at large. The company uses a broad range of process-design tools. All its work is overlaid by its employees' experiential base who, collectively, have had many years of experience in the operation and design of plants and processes covering the full range of process options for diamonds, coal, gold, base metals, uranium, iron ore and manganese. ProMet's engineers possess project expertise from exposure and, in certain cases, full control of various projects around the globe in such diverse locations as South Africa, Botswana, Russia, Australia, Canada, Venezuela, Brazil, New Caledonia, India, Guinea, Cameroon, Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, Namibia, Angola and Tanzania. ?
