Lachine to proceed with library renovations
Services to move to Gariepy Centre
The Saul Bellow Library in Lachine is slated for major renovations. Plans call for doubling the size of this library situated at 3100 Saint Antoine Street. But the library will have to close on October 22

Special to accommodate this work and remain closed for about one year. Effective October 29, Lachine will be offering library services out of the Albert Gariépy Centre (800 Sherbrooke Street) which is on the 90, 110 and 191 bus routes. "The extension and redevelopment of the Saul Bellow Library will improve and diversify the services, activities and programs offered to its users.Accord- ing to plan, the work will spread out over a one year period. I am certain that Lachine residents will truly appreciate the final results," said Lachine Mayor Claude Dauphin. The Saul Bellow Library enlargement and redevelopment project seeks to obtain LEED Gold certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).This project receives financial support from the Ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine and from Ville de Montréal under the Entente sur le développement culturel de Montréal. The library is named after Saul Bellow (1915 -2005), a writer who won the Pulitzer Prize, the Nobel Prize for Literature, and the National Medal of Arts.As a boy, Bellow lived in Lachine.
