However, new approaches, such as those offered at the Fibroid Clinic in the Women?s Health Center, University of Minnesota Medical Center provide patients with alternative treatment options for these non-cancerous tumors. Opened in January, the Fibroid Clinic is a collaboration between gynecology and interventional radiology providers. The care uofmmedicalcenter.org team at University of Minnesota Physicians works together to make evidence-based decisions in determining the best course of treatment for each patient. In addition to hysterectomy, treatment possibilities include GnRH (gonadotropin-releasing hormone) therapy, endometrial ablation, myomectomy and uterine fibroid embolization (UFE). ?This clinic provides patients a comprehensive, one-stop visit to learn all they need to know and see all the consultants they need to see to make a decision about how to best treat their fibroids,? says Carrie Ann Terrell, M.D., director of the division of obstetrics and gynecology. continues on page 6>> Published quarterly for health care professionals April 2009 vol. 2, issue 1
