The Migration
Serengeti sunset/Gro Husmo The annual migration is without doubt one of nature?s most impressive spectacles and a highlight you may be lucky enough to witness on some of our tours. Over a million wildebeest in lines up to 40km long take part in an annual cycle taking them between the great plains of the Serengeti and Kenya?s Maasai Mara in the constant search for food and water. Zebra and gazelle follow in their tracks in addition of course to predators large and small stalking the herds for their next meal. Whilst animal sightings can never be guaranteed, the map on the left illustrates where and when it may be possible to see the migration on both our Kenyan and northern Tanzanian safaris.

There?s also the chance to explore Crescent Island Game Sanctuary before we head west to Kenya?s finest wildlife park, the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. Here we spend two full days among its abundant game, including elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, buffalo and rhino. The forested banks of the Mara and Talek rivers are an excellent place to view hippos, crocs and waterfowl. Serengeti & Ngorongoro Crater Our journey continues into Tanzania and the shores of Lake Victoria. From Speke Bay we enter the remote Western Corridor of the Serengeti. Here we?re soon among the vast herds of zebra, wildebeest and Grant?s gazelle that inhabit the huge grasslands. Here we enjoy further game drives and you may even wish to make a balloon trip over the plains at dawn for a truly unforgettable experience. Next we reach the Ngorongoro Crater, the Athi Ref EA world?s largest intact caldera. Rhino, lion and elephant are the big attraction here, whilst flamingo occupy pride of place on the shallow soda lake. Tribes of Lake Eyasi & Amboseli From the crater we continue to Karatu, close to the Rift Valley escarpment. From here there?s the opportunity to visit the shores of Lake Eyasi, where we set out on foot to locate Hadzabi bushmen hunter/gatherers and the Datoka tribe. We finally complete our journey returning to Kenya and exploring Amboseli National Park. With the dominant backdrop views of snow-capped Kilimanjaro to guide our way, we make a final game drive in search of the parks? famous elephant herds.
