MADA's Rosh Hashanah dinners begin tonight

Three thousand meals to be served to the Jewish community By Dan Delmar The Suburban The MADA community kitchen and food bank is now in the midst of the Rosh Hashanah rush to feed as many needy members of Montreal's Jewish community as possible. On Wednesday and Thursday nights this week, organizers say they are aiming to serve 3,000 meals to those who are unable to experience an elaborate, festive Jewish celebration. The dinners are taking place in nine locations around the city, including at their headquarters in Plaza Côte des Neiges. It is "an evening of joy and the warmth of family, including a full-course festive New Year's meal, blessings with symbolic traditional foods, Rabbinical inspirations, with singing and dancing." Staff at Quebec's only kosher soup kitchen prefers that MADA not even be described as a "soup kitchen," according to event coordinator Miriam Sebbag, who spoke to The Suburban about the centre's mission recently. She prefers the term community "cafeteria."
