CAREER TRANSITIONS LECTURE AT CSL LIBRARY

Dr. Ada Sinacore, a leading authority on career issues, will give a lecture on career transitions on Thursday, June 10 at 6:30 p.m. at Côte St. Luc's Eleanor London Library, the city announced. "Career transition refers to the process of changing one's professional life due to changes in the demand for certain kinds of jobs or for other reasons," says the city announcement. "With change also comes a chance for individuals to pave a new career path and transform a personal passion or hobby into a viable career option. For some this may translate into a return to school in a particular area of interest. In this lecture, Dr. Sinacore, an associate professor at the McGill University Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, will examine the challenges and opportunities that arise in the process of occupational transitioning." Tickets are $3. For more information, call the library at 514-485- 6900 or visit www.elcslpl.org.

HAMPSTEAD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION

Hampstead is holding its annual Hazardous Household Waste collection Sunday June 13 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Public Works garage located at 10 Cleve Rd. "For a second year, Shred-It, a shredding company, will be on site from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to shred personal and confidential documents," says a town announcement. "Identity theft is currently the type of fraud that is expanding the most rapidly. The defrauders may get confidential information about a person, not only by Internet or by statements found in a recycling bin, but also from simple information contained on receipts of all kinds, restaurant checks, bank statements, etc. The town invites residents to protect their personal data and take advantage of this free service to shred documents that are no longer needed, but which are still very important regarding financial security. Also available on this day, residents are invited to bring their old electronic material as well as CDs and DVDs for recuperation. A complete list of accepted hazardous household waste is available on the town's website at www.hampstead.qc.ca under the Hampstead Goes Green tab."

NEW NAMES FOR ST. LAURENT LIBRARIES

St. Laurent borough council announced last week that it will recommend to Quebec's toponymy commission that the planned library on Thimens, near Marcel Laurin Park, be called "Bibliothèque du Boisé (timber)", and that the current library at De L'Église be called "Bibliothèque du Vieux-Saint-Laurent," reflecting the older area of the borough in which it is located.

More than a thousand rally for Israel, cheer Canadian government's support

By Joel Goldenberg The Suburban More than 1,500 people (despite the Gazette's claim of only "hundreds") rallied in support of Israel in front of the Israeli consulate at Westmount Square Monday afternoon. They gathered to express solidarity with Israel and respond to the criticisms of the country's operation against the recent flotilla attempting to break the blockade on Gaza. The rally, organized by rabbis Reuben Poupko and Chaim Steinmetz and the Jewish Unity Partnership was also a response to a protest held by pro-Palestinian groups Saturday in downtown Montreal attended by only 200-300. No politicians attended or addressed that crowd. Israeli consul-general Yoram Elron called that protest a "march of shame. "Once again, Israel is in a position where we have to defend ourselves for defending ourselves," Elron said. "I have three questions I am asking myself. How is it possible that all the countries of the world, Canada excluded, do not see the big strategic picture? Israel, a bastion of democracy and peace, is at the forefront of the war against terrorism. Why are we always subjected to double standards - just in the last month, 500 people were killed in Afghanistan, in Pakistan, a South Korean boat was sunk by North Korea and hardly a word was said about it. But here we are, again with the necessity of defending ourselves for defending our- Publisher: Michael Sochaczevski Associate Publisher: Sari Medicoff VP Business Development & Marketing: David Solomon Sales Manager: David Broadman Production Manager: Karen L. selves. When will we see a time... when we are not judged before the facts are fully known? I don't have the answers to these questions. But I can tell you that Israel is subjected to a vicious campaign to delegitimize its existence.
