CDN/NDG cat owners warned to keep them indoors By Dan Delmar The Suburban Following a rash of what the Montreal SPCA is calling "horrific" skunk-killings, an ominous warning has been issued for Côte des Neiges-NDG pet owners: Keep your cats indoors and keep an eye on your dogs until further notice. Alana Devine, the agency's director of animal welfare, told The Suburban that an investigation is being conducted to determine who is responsible for the deaths. A number of skunks have turned up dead or dying on the streets of NDG; the result from ingesting antifreeze. She would not say specifically what part of NDG is affected. "We're encouraging people to keep their cats indoors," Devine said. "If anyone has witnessed anything, they should come forward." The SPCA believes the suspect is leaving pools of antifreeze around areas where skunks take shelter. It is unlikely that the deaths are a result of a leak from a vehicle, she said, because of the quantity found in multiple locations, and because the temperature no longer dips below the freezing point. "It suggests a poisoning. It would be highly unlikely that it would just come from a car." Even more surprising is that Devine said these types of poisonings are hardly uncommon. "It happens on a regular basis. Unfortunately, it's earlier this year. Last year, we had a lot of skunks and pigeons
