Looking into the crystal ball, will 17year-old Benjamin Masella eventually become a pharmacist/politician like his dad or play professional hockey? Speaking to me last week on the day of his graduation from Lower Canada College (LCC), the young man in question confided that when he thinks about a career he favours the option of sports psychology. That being said, do not rule out a National Hockey League career for him. Masella, whose dad is the mayor of Montreal West, was recently drafted by the Montreal Juniors of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). The six foot, 200 pound defenceman is coming off a strong season as the captain of the Midget AAA and West Island based Lac St. Louis Lions. Despite the temptation of the elite QMJHL, Masella has opted for a chance to attend and play hockey at Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts - a U.S. prep school which has produced a number of NHL draft picks.
