Hampstead gets federal, provincial funding for pipe renewal

By Joel Goldenberg The Suburban Hampstead received last week a joint federal and provincial contribution of $814,500 for major infrastructure work under the Canada-Quebec program for the renewal of drinking water and wastewater pipes program, to which the town will add a third of the total $1,221,750 cost. The announcement was made via statement by federal Natural Resources Minister Christian Paradis and in person at Hampstead town hall by D'Arcy McGee MNA Lawrence Bergman, who met with Mayor William Steinberg and councillors Michael Goldwax, in charge of the public works portfolio, and Leon Elfassy, in charge of the public security portfolio. "Our government, through the contribution to PRECO, is helping to create jobs, which is stimulating the regional economy," said the statement by Paradis.

New slate for CSL Senior Men's Club

By Sid Birns Special to The Suburban At their monthly breakfast meeting, members were greeted by outgoing president Ted Baker, where he thanked the members for all their help in making his tenure as president successful. Members of the Côte St. Luc city council, Ruth Kovac, Mitchell Brownstein, Glenn Nashen, Allan Levine and Mike Cohen as well as Mayor Anthony Housefather, who conducted the swearing in ceremonies for the new board of directors, were in attendance.

The meeting opened with more than 200 members and dignitaries singing the Canadian national anthem, O Canada. Mayor Housefather had the opportunity to speak "off the cuff" and commented on President Baker's jokes upon opening the meeting. He also spoke about the coming building of the Intergenerational Recreational Centre, which will be for all ages, with facilities to accommodate seniors with special needs and two indoor swimming pools.
