You be the judge in this my annual look ahead. Dumont the Tory: Mario Dumont leaves his job as a talk show host for V (formerly Television Quatre Saisons) and accepts an offer from Prime Minister Stephen Harper to run for the Conservatives on the South Shore. Harper Majority: The Conservatives help trigger an election by proposing a budget none of the opposition parties can accept. Prime Minister Harper wins his much coveted majority, thanks in large part to his new Quebec lieutenant Dumont and Senator Jacques Demers? rousing speeches in church basements across the province. The Dumont- Demers team help the Tories gain 25 Quebec seats and several on the island of Montreal. Iggy Resigns: Michael Ignatieff resigns as leader of the Federal Liberal Party. A full fledged leadership convention is held later in the year, with Martin Cauchon winning a close decision over Bob Rae. Denis Coderre announces soon after that he is crossing the floor to sit with the Tories. Charest Retires: Quebec Premier Jean Charest accepts an offer from Prime Minister Harper to become Canada?s new Ambassador on already-reduced clearance-priced men?s fashion DÉCARIE SQUARE 6900, DÉCARIE BLVD., CÔTE SAINT-LUC, PQ.
