From Montreal to North Miami Beach for Mayor Rosner

NORTH MIAMI BEACH ? Montrealers are just about everywhere you go in South Florida, especially with the massive influx of Snowbirds in the winter. But how many of them can actually boast about being a mayor? That is precisely the case for Myron Rosner, who was elected to the top job in North Miami Beach last May. Rosner, 49, the son of noted Montreal travel and spa guru Gerda Rosner, has been here 20 years now. He is married to Sarah Zabel, a Miami Dade County Circuit Judge and they have four children. A general contractor, Rosner?s life took an awful turn in 2001 when a construction site accident put him in a wheelchair for life. Despite the odds he successfully pursued a seat on North Miami Beach city council two years after the accident. Last May he was elected mayor. Rosner told me that has not let his handicap stop him, choosing instead to listen to his wife and kids ?to never give up.? His personal hobbies include, building an accessible boat with a lift, waterskiing, modifying a Boss Hoss motorcycle trike, playing wheelchair tennis, swimming, and riding his three wheeled bicycle. ?Usually, when someone is with me for a few minutes, they see beyond the wheelchair,? he says.
