My, how times have changed! The advent of Personal People Meters (PPM), cell phone-sized automatic receptors worn by families in the ratings sample, provides a more accurate count of how many Canadians are watching TV and listening to radio at a given time. Whereas CBC Radio 1 (88.5 FM) never used to be much of a player in the ratings, despite some excellent local programming, it is now right in the heat of the race and finished fourth behind CJAD, Virgin and Q 92.5 FM in the recent fall survey. As for television, the gamble of creating a brand new 90 minute, 5 p.m. supper hour newscast anchored by Andrew Chang and newly arrived Pointe Claire resident Jennifer Hall, along with solid weather forecaster Frank Cavallaro, is paying off. ?The Simpsons are no match for us!? stated an internal CBC memo to employees. ?
