PEE-WEE INVITATIONAL IN CSL
Côte St. Luc announced that ?as part of the 2010 Côte Winter Carnival, an eight-team Peewee ?A? invitational outdoor hockey tournament will take place on the weekend of Friday, Feb. 12 to Sunday, Feb. 14. Weather and ice conditions permitting, the games are played outdoors in the Confederation Annex building in Pierre Elliott Trudeau Park. If the conditions are not suitable, the games will take place inside the Samuel Moskovitch Arena. A total of 11 games will be played over the weekend, with the semi-finals and finals being played during the annual winter carnival event (Sunday, Feb. 14).?
HAMPSTEAD RECREATION BROCHURE
Councillor Bonnie Feigenbaum recently announced that Hampstead?s spring and summer 2010 culture, sports and recreation brochure is just about completed and will be distributed with the town?s communications newsletter Feb. 22. ?A meeting will be arranged with some local residents who want to get involved in planning more programs,? she said. ?If you?re interested, please call the [Adessky] centre? at 514-369-8260.
LIBRARY REBATE UPDATE
As of the February council meeting, Hampstead?s new rebate program to join a Montreal-island library has attracted six individuals and 11 seniors. Feigenbaum said all so far have chosen to join the Eleanor London Library in Côte St. Luc.
St. LAURENT SUBSIDIES
St. Laurent?s subsidies and financial assistance, as announced at the February council meeting, include $25,000 ?for the fifth payment of the annual financial contribution to CARI St-Laurent for the 2010 year; $11,500 to the Centre d?Initiatives pour le Développement Communautaire l?Unité for the 2010 year; $410 to a Saint-Laurent resident for participation in l?Open de Paris, an international karate competition, from Jan. 12 to Jan. 17, 2010 and $1,306.15 to the Canadian Red Cross to provide assistance to the victims of the earthquake that occurred in Haiti.? A borough announcement pointed out that ?this amount corresponds to the total of donations collected by the Citizens? Office among St. Laurent employees and residents as of Jan. 29. As council had pledged to equal the donations received, the total amount given to the Canadian Red Cross therefore increased to $2,612.30.?
TAX PAYMENT EXTENDED HOURS
St. Laurent announced that to more easily enable residents to pay their taxes before the due date, the Citizen?s Office at 777 Marcel Laurin will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday Feb. 25 and 26, and on the Monday March 1 due date for the first installment. LUNAR NEW YEAR
The NDG Community Council is holding a Lunar New Year celebration on Sunday, Feb. 14 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. for members of the borough?s Asian communities and those who are curious about the traditions. The event, taking place at the St. Ignatius of Loyola Church (4455 West Broadway Ave.), is part of the Bienvenue à NDG program, which ?facilitates the integration of immigrant families into the neighbourhood.? Financing is provided by the Ministère de l?Immigration et des Communautés Culturelles and the Ministère de l?Education, du Loisir et du Sport. Architects chosen for second St. Laurent library
1,080 metres devoted to a museum collection conservation centre at the Musée des Maitres et Artisans on Ste. Croix. The museum was also the location of Monday?s press conference. The library, scheduled to open in 2012, is receiving funding from Quebec?s culture ministry, a threeyear Montreal cultural fund and St. Laurent itself for a total of $25.5 million for the actual library and $4.15 million for the museum facility.
