Cont?d from page 4 Mike?s Blog. Another Day for Drabkin: Stockwell Day, now the president of the Federal Treasury Board, has moved over to his new portfolio with local immigration lawyer Neil Drabkin in the familiar role as chief of staff. Drabkin, who has distinguished himself in that capacity, held the same post for Day in Public Safety and Trade. Drabkin has supported Day as his chief of staff since the election in 2006, first at Public Safety, then at International Trade and will now do so at the ever important Treasury Board. Drabkin will have his work cut out for him. As one of his most trusted minis- ters, Day has been given the huge mandate by the prime minister to restrain spending and cut the national debt. COHEN CHATTER: Former ADQ leader Mario Dumont?s 5 p.m. weekday talk show on the V network (formerly Quatre Saisons) called Dumont 360 has not been doing well in the ratings. It will be cut in half Friday, to 30 minutes, to coincide with Winter Olympic coverage. Chances are it will stay that way after the Games are over. My prediction is a Dumont candidacy on the South Shore for Stephen Harper?s Tories in the next federal election. If Harper can reel him in, it could help his chances of gaining a majority. When it comes to making career choices, I always assumed that there were two types of students: those who know what path they want to follow and those who don?t. However, interviews with Concordia students uncovered a third type: those who think they have a clear idea of what they want to do, but after researching their chosen field, realize that it?s not for them. HAITITALIA

Cont?d from page 7 the need.? Following the earthquake that destroyed much of Port-au-Prince, Congresso quickly announced an emergency appeal asking the Italian community for financial donations designated for earthquake relief in Haiti. (Donations can be made at the Leonardo da Vinci Center, Acces Montreal offices, or Caisse Populaire Canadienne- Italienne branches.) This concert will add to that effort, says Congresso?s executive-director Josie Verillo. ?All funds will benefit Haiti relief efforts. One-hundred-percent of the proceeds go to the Red Cross,? she says, adding that the Centre is assuming all expenses for staff, facilities and equipment. Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. show are on sale at the Leonardo da Vinci Centre for $50. For information call: 514-955-8370. ?

PUTTING MARKETING THEORY INTO PRACTICE: AN INNOVATIVE PATH TO A SUCCESSFUL CAREER

Harold J. Simpkins, PhD

Most importantly, almost all students leave career planning to the very last minute. With this knowledge, colleague Dr. Jordan Lebel and I developed ?Marketing Yourself?, an award-winning online course which teaches students how to apply the principles of marketing to their careers. Its goal is to help students identify career paths that align with their strengths and passions. The course then teaches them how to create complete marketing plans to get them on their way. Most people see marketing as advertising. Marketing is so much more. It includes identifying opportunities, setting objectives and using product, price, place and promotion to achieve the objectives. In ?Marketing Yourself?, students get to see themselves as the product. Their desired salaries are the

Don?t leave recyclables outside bins: Hampstead councillor

By Joel Goldenberg The Suburban The company hired to pick up recyclables in Hampstead will only transport what is contained inside the bins left on the curb, says councillor Michael Goldwax. Goldwax was giving his monthly report at this February council meeting, related to his portfolio of public works. ?We?ve been getting more and more cooperation from residents, having the bins facing in the right direction [on the curb],? he said. ?But we?re still getting problems of people putting items that don?t fit in the bin on the side of the bins. ?The company will not pick up the stuff that?s left outside of the bin, and secondly, they will not pick up the 64litre small bins as well. If residents feel their 240 litre-bin is not big enough for their large family and they want to recycle more, we can provide a larger bin. Just let us know.? ? price component. Place is the geographic areas where they would like to work. Promotion is their cover letters, resumes, networking and interview skills. Over 4,000 students have enrolled in ?Marketing Yourself? since its inception. It?s been enormously gratifying for us to see the positive impact of the course on our students? career plans and lives.
