Will police respect drivers' rights?
Testing for drugs could pose constitutional problems
By Dan Delmar The Suburban Montreal police will be training at least five officers to detect drivers impaired by illegal drugs over the winter and constitutional rights lawyer Julius Grey is worried that justice may take a back seat to quickly nabbing offenders. According to a recently published report, the specially-trained officers who pull drivers over for suspicion of driving under the influence will be able to subject the driver to any of 12 different tests to determine if they should not be behind the wheel. They include tests to determine body temperature, blood pressure and pupil dilation.
