CSL murder shock reverberates around the world

Killing of 14-year-old a first in several unfortunate ways

Grief-stricken family and friends gathered Friday at Paperman and Sons for the funeral of 14-year-old Shirel Attar of Côte St. Luc, who was found murdered at her Randall Avenue home a week ago Monday. Shirel's brother Maor, 18, has been charged with first-degree murder, and is expected to appear in court Sept. 8. Maor had been in Israel for a year and returned to Côte St. Luc a month ago. Shirel's immediate family could be seen holding their heads in grief as the hour-long service, mainly in Hebrew with some French, took place, attended by several community rabbis, mostly from the family's Sephardic Jewish community.
