verdun cancels bcia public security contract

by p.a. sévigny the suburban last week, during an emergency council meeting held to discuss verdun's public security, borough councillors voted to cancel verdun's new contract with bureau canadien d'investigations et d'ajustements (bcia) because the troubled company could not find the money required to pay for its own security bond. verdun communications director francine morin said the borough's officials gave the now bankrupt company every opportunity to fulfill its commitment but once the deadline passed, she said the borough's council had no choice but to cancel the contract. apart from the fact the borough was still willing to do business with the company even as the news of its impending bankruptcy began to make its way into the city's media, the borough's patience was considerably more generous than the company was with its own employees. as of last thursday, at least two of verdun's public security officers told the suburban that bcia had not paid them or any of its employees for the past six weeks.
