project, located in the Fort à la Corne region of east-central Saskatchewan. Indicated resources stand at 122.7 million tonnes grading 13.6 carats per hundred tonnes (cpht) and inferred resources of 30.3 million tonnes grading 13.1 cpht, or 17 million carats. The project comprises the Star Diamond Project, 100%-owned by Shore Gold, and the Star West, owned as to Shore 60% and newmont Mining corp. [NEM-NYSE], 40%. In addition to the above estimates, a further 100 to 120 million tonnes of the Star kimberlite is designated as a potential mineral deposit (conceptual). The Star Project is adjacent to the Fort à la Corne Joint Venture owned as to Shore 60% and Newmont 40%, where recent underground bulk sampling of the Orion South Zone yielded stones weighing 2.59, 2.22, 1.63 and 1.19 carats. In March, a 15.99-carat diamond was recovered during bulk sampling at Orion South. Shore and Newmont are also exploring the diamondiferous Taurus kimberlite cluster within the Fort à la Corne joint venture. Snowfield Development corp. [SNO- TSXV] has dropped its Mud Lake kimberlite work in the Northwest Territories due to low diamond counts. Efforts are now focused on discovering the source of the indicator anomalies north of Mud Lake and exploring the remainder of the property. Sola resource corp. [SL-TSXV] has been conducting a 20,000-tonne bulk sampling and testing program on the diamond-bearing Caroline kimberlite pipe in Rondonia state, Brazil. To date, about 5,000 tonnes of samples have been pre-concentrated in the 400-tpd jig plant on site with 800 tonnes sent to the diamond processing lab. A number of white, gem-quality diamonds have been recovered, including stones weighing 2.48, 2.23, 2.12 and 1.02 carats. Spider resources inc. [SPQ-TSXV], 49%, and KWg resources inc. [KWG-TSXV], 51%, have discovered eight separate diamond occurrences at their Wawa Diamond Project near the Town of Wawa, northern Ontario. The partners also hold the Kyle Lake Project where five kimberlites have been discovered west of the Attawapiskat swarm of kimberlites, northern Ontario. Spider granted renforth resources inc. an option to earn a 55% interest in its Kyle Lake interests. KWG and Spider are currently focusing efforts on the Ring of Fire region near the Noront discovery in northern Ontario. KWG has rolled over its diamond interests to subsidiary Debuts Diamonds inc. Stornoway Diamond corp. [SWY-TSXV] is involved in no less than 14 diamond projects in Québec, Nunavut, Northwest Territories, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario. Stornoway, 41.86%, and Shear Minerals, 58.14%, have approved up to a $3.8-million exploration program for 2008 and the mobilization of a 30-person field camp located at Josephine Lake on the Churchill Diamond Project, Nunavut, is now complete. The goal for 2008 is to prove up the existing kimberlites, as well as to explore for new kimberlites with largetonnage potential that may occur as either pipes, blows along dykes or where the dykes widen substantially. A total of 31 kimberlites were discovered in 2007. Stornoway has also discovered 11 kimberlites on the 90%-owned Aviat Project, Nunavut, one of which yielded a 3.64-carat, gem-quality diamond. Stornoway has a 50% interest in the Qilalugaq Project, eastern Nunavut and a 100% interest in the Temiskaming Project in northeast Ontario and northwest Québec. In Quebec, Stornoway and 50/50 partner SOQUeM inc. are exploring the Renard Project on the Foxtrot properties on 200,000 hectares of mineral permits in the Otish Mountains region where bulk sampling has been completed. A total of 6,497 carats of diamonds were recovered from a 6,036-tonne sample of kimberlite. Stornoway also has varying interests in other diamond properties in North America and Botswana. Tahera Diamond corp. [TAH-TSX] is under bankruptcy protection and has now completed processing ore at the Jericho Mine in Nunavut. The mine is being placed on a care and maintenance basis and the company hopes to sell the project. Tres-Or resources Ltd. [TRS-TSXV] reports that its first drill hole in the summer 2008 program that was testing a geophysical anomaly intersected a kimberlitic breccia on its Notre Dame du Nord properties in the Temiskaming region of northwest Québec. More drilling is delineating the kimberlite and will be followed by drill testing another target five kilometres south. Meanwhile macrodiamond processing is under way on a large bulk sample from the Lapointe kimberlite pipe about 80 kilometres south of Timmins, Ontario. Stornoway Diamond is processing the Lapointe material in its DMS facility in return for a first right of refusal to acquire an interest in the project. arctic Star Diamond corp. [ADD-TSXV] has a 5% net profits interest in the Lapointe kimberlite. True north gems inc. [TGX-TSXV] is conducting field activities as part of the 2008 exploration and prefeasibility program on the company's 823-square-kilometre Fiskenaesset Ruby Project, located on the southwest coast of Greenland. The two principal objectives of the 2008 exploration program are to enhance the successful results achieved during 2004 to 2007 through advanced exploration and prefeasibility-related studies at the Aappaluttoq prospect, and to continue with regional and prospect-scale exploration on the other ruby occurrences identified to date on the Greenland properties. vaaldiam resources Ltd. [VAA-TSX] is South America's largest diamond producer and owns two mines in Brazil. The company recently agreed to acquire the neighbouring mine and extensive concessions adjoining its Duas Barras Mine in the state of Minas Gerais. Acquiring the producing Pecanha Mine also provides Vaaldiam with a second 2,000 tpd diamond recovery plant and a new mining fleet. This will enable the company to reach its target of producing 100,000 carats annually from the Diamantina District. In May, Vaaldiam reported the recovery of a 30.95-carat diamond from is 100%-owned Chapada Mine in Brazil. In late April, Vaaldiam reported an initial tonnage of 4.7 to 5.5 million tonnes for its Brauna 3 kimberlite pipe in Bahia state, one of four diamond-bearing pipes found to date. At its 100%-owned Candle Lake C29/30 kimberlite pipe on the northern end of the Fort à la Corne field in central Saskatchewan, 370 macrodiamonds larger than 0.85 mm were recovered from 632.94 tonnes of kimberlite. n August 2008 www.resourceworld.com 59
