Mayor?s Message

Greeting from the Mayor ? 2010 Collection Guide

This is the third annual waste and recycling calendar and I encourage you to read it cover to cover for the interesting and environmentally important information contained herein. Council has approved a 25 year master plan for waste management with the objectives of reducing our dependence on landfill and encouraging greater amounts of recycling. Most of you will also know that Council has agreed to explore an ?energy from waste? project in partnership with a local greenhouse operation. It is through this process that we expect to dramatically reduce the use of landfill, while generating both electricity for the Ontario grid and heat for the greenhouse operation. Please join us in protecting our environment and ensuring that the world we leave for our children and grand children is the best possible. Keep this calendar in a place of prominence and share it with your family, friends and neighbours. Dennis Travale Mayor, Norfolk County A MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER NORFOLK COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS AND ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES Another year has passed and County staff have worked hard in preparing the 2010 Norfolk County Collection Guide. Your continued support and feedback will make this edition better than previous years. Waste Management has become an integral part of everyday life. Recycling, composting, and energy from waste are making headlines in the local media. The guide will provide you with valuable advice on how to improve your recycling and composting efforts. The guide will also keep you informed of the County?s 2010 initiatives to increase the volume of material recycled. These initiatives will reduce the County?s dependency on land filling and help protect the environment. If you wish to provide input into future editions of the guide or simply want to obtain information relating to the services provided by the Public Works and Environmental Services Department (waste management, roads, water, wastewater and drainage), you can contact us at 519-582-2100 or 519- 428-0020 or visit us on the web at www.norfolkcounty.ca. To protect and enhance Norfolk County's environment is everyone?s responsibility. Eric R. D?Hondt, P.Eng.
