The Continentals to perform
The Continentals present their concert for 2008 "New Beginnings?, featuring the 25th anniversary of "Dreamer,? the epic story of Joseph appearing at Faith Baptist Church in Alturas on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. First premiered in 1983, the musical "Dreamer? won the coveted Dove Award that year for Best Musical. The 25th Anniversary Revival brings this popular musical based on the life of Joseph into the 21st century with lavish costuming, choreography and technical effects. It is all part of the ministry's theme for 2008, "New Beginnings.? The concert will also feature the standards and songs that have been the hallmark of The Continentals since 1967. The concert event is for everyone and all ages.
Adopt, see pets on Saturday
It is back to normal for High Plateau Humane Society's Second Chance Thrift Store. It will be open this Saturday, Sept. 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and "feature sweet kittens yearning for a new home? and "a couple of good dogs? ready to be adopted, plus an assortment of gently used items waiting for a second chance. The store is located at 110 East First St., Alturas and sports a brad new, blue sign hanging overhead. The Continentals are an empowered, enthusiastic, evangelical group of young people (ages 16-28) communicating the Truth of Jesus Christ as the only absolute, in an everchanging world. In 2008, The Continentals continue their 40- year tradition of cutting edge music ministry with the very best of contemporary Christian music, energizing choreography and personal testimony. This group of 25-30 vocalists, dancers and technicians will challenge and inspire audiences.
Students wish to contact troops
The S.E.A.L.S Afterschool program is looking for any local troops currently serving overseas. The children enrolled in our program would like an opportunity to write letters of support to them and send special gifts of love to them. Those who have any family members or friends from the local communities serving overseas, please contact Heather Tufts with the S.E.A.L.S Afterschool program with their name, location overseas and address. Inspire the next generation with 4-H
The Modoc 4-H Youth Development Program is recruiting adult volunteers to help young people learn the skills they need to prepare for successful lives in the 21st century. Dr. Meadows attended the birth of the 8 lb. girl who measured 20 inches long. Sisters Amara, 5 years and Kaiya, 3 years, welcome her arrival. JAYSON DALLAS ELWOOD was born to Johnna and Michael Elwood of Alturas, CA on August 21, 2008 at Kingman, Arizona. The boy weighed 7 lb., 2 ozs. and measured 19 inches long. Siblings Zachary, MaDawna and Cierra welcome his arrival. Maternal grandparents are Sean and Madonna Oneel and Jay Cates. Paternal grandparents are Julia Elwood, Alturas, CA and Sam Davalos. ALEXANDER EDWARD KNIGHT was born to Veronica and Michael Edward Knight of Redding, CA on June 22, 2008 at 7:28 p.m. at Mercy Medical Center, Redding. The meeting is held each year to acquaint the membership of its various activities of the past and forthcoming year. Registration of the members-owners will commence at 10:00 a.m. At 11:30 a.m., a delicious meal is in store for those in attendance. The business meeting will start promptly at 1:00 p.m., which will include election of directors and other business that may be presented. During the meeting many prizes will be given away, and to climax the day's activities a grand prize 5 day Mexican Cruise will be drawn for.

Entertainment: The Sound Bytes, have been delighting audiences for nearly ten years. They play 50's, 60's and 70's rock and roll and party songs, featuring Surf and Hot Rod music by the Beach Boys, Jan and Dean and the Ventures. Steve Dromensk was the founder and lead singer of Papa Doo Run Run. He has been performing for more than 30 years, and has written and recorded songs for Jan and Dean, Papa Doo Run Run and G.T. Shoes. Dave Kibler has performed with top Central California bands for more than 30 years and has shared the stage with The Ventures, The Romantics, Flock of Seagulls and many others.
