Welcome to the 2010 MS Walk! You are part of the movement to end MS. By participating in the MS Walk, you are making an impact in the lives of people living with multiple sclerosis. Last year, almost 30,000 walkers across Ontario raised over $6.2 million in pledges! Every dollar makes a difference, and every pledge brings us closer to ending MS. It?s never too early to get started. Read our fundraising tips on page 2 to start this year?s fundraising off on the right foot. The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada is the only organization in Canada to fund research and provide support to those with MS and their families in your community. As the MS Society?s largest fundraising event, the MS Walk is an important way to raise funds for this unpredictable, often disabling disease. Thank you for joining us!

Following diagnosis, taking a step forward included the MS Walk

Jim, Melissa and Ethan Pourgoutzidis Photo by Andrei Sedoff Jim Pourgoutzidis first heard about the MS Walk in April 2008, when he pledged a colleague whose father lives with the disease. Jim had no way of knowing that just one month later he too would be diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Jim?s typically positive attitude came through when he received the life changing news. ?I was actually thankful when the neurologist gave me the diagnosis,? he recalls. ?You can?t change the situation. Obviously everyone deals with news like this in their own way. But for me, it was good to have an answer.? ?I have my tough days,? he admits. ?But life goes on, and you have to take another step forward.? For Jim and his wife Melissa, both 30, that next step included taking part in the MS Walk in Newmarket. They formed a team, which Jim named MJ-4-MS ? ?Melissa-Jim for MS?. Friends and family joined, and soon their 16 members had raised more than $5,000 in pledges, including $2,240 raised by Jim and Melissa. (continued on page 7)
