certified family medicine specialist Inda Mowett, MD has been practicing out east since her arrival in the area seven years ago. Her initial work was with a large physician group in Bradenton but she later opened her own practice to offer the services she is passionate about including aesthetics and weight loss management. Mowett earned her doctor of medicine degree from the University of Panama in Panama City and then completed an internship at Jamaica Hospital in Queens, New York and finally her residency in Family Medicine at St. Joseph Hospital in Patterson, New Jersey. "In New York I saw a lot of patients who suffered from depression and were on medications for the condition,? Mowett said. "I thought if they could get preventive care and wellness education, they could reduce their dependence on antidepressant medications through simple lifestyle changes, and stress and weight loss programs.? "The type of preventive medicine I practice allows me to help my patients improve their medical conditions, including reducing their dependence on medications and improving their self-esteem. As they make these gradual changes they experience major improvements in their physical and emotional health and their family relationships, which results in an overall improvement in the quality of their lives. The most rewarding thing about working with patients in my practice is the opportunity to help them prevent medical conditions through changes in lifestyle,? Mowett said. In this vein, she has helped patients with diabetes take control of their health and lives through changes they are able to make with her guidance. Regarding aesthetics, Mowett enjoys "making people look beautiful inside and out.? Her program of skin analysis to assess sun damage can result in the use of photofacial treatments to remove abnormal skin pigmentation that can lead to skin cancer. The treatment also removes broken blood vessels and controls rosatia. Another treatment option she uses are injectable fillers to restore volume to the face that is lost through the aging process. She also uses Botox to removes wrinkles caused by facial expressions and microdermabrasion and chemical peels to offer patients improvements in the texture and appearance of their skin. Mowett also employs laser treatments to increase collagen in the skin. She also uses Mesotherapy, a French technique to dissolve localized fat which reduces the appearance of cellulite. A lot of her practice centers around weight loss management. "We offer a physician supervised program,? Mowett said. "We take a complete medical history, review each patient's lifestyle and consider current medical conditions. From that we tailor an individual plan for each patient. Through various analysis techniques including body composition analysis and body mass indexing, we can better understand each patient's needs and then develop a personalized plan which includes nutrition counseling, exercise guidance, supplements and in some cases medications to help patients achieve their goals.? Mowett treats patients of all ages. She works with many peri and post menopausal women because of their tendency to gain weight easily due to hormonal imbalances and the aging process. When out of the office, Mowett enjoys healthy cooking and loves nature, traveling to national parks as often as time allows "to be close to nature.? When she is home, Mowett enjoys gardening as a grounding activity that keeps her close to "mother nature?. The out east resident lives in Palm Aire and says she loves the community not only because the weather mirrors her native Panama but because of its proximity to all the amenities of larger cities within driving distance from home. In her future plans are visits to Hawaii and then the Greek Isles. "I will get to both!? Mowett said enthusiastically. The Center for Aesthetics and Wellness is located at 3825 SR 64, Suite 300 in Bradenton. For more information, call (941) 749- 0741 or go to www.TAWCenter.com.
