LOE: Tell us something about yourselves. ? LM: I was born and grew up in New Jersey. I went to college at the University of Missouri and majored in journalism. ? WR: I was born in London, England. We traveled all over with my father who was with Alcan Aluminum. I grew up in Cali, Colombia and have lived in Puerto Rico and all over the states. We moved to Sarasota in 1970. I went to Riverview High, then Manatee Community College and graduated from USF with a mass communications degree. LOE: Do you have family in the area? ? WR: Both sets of our parents live in the area and I still work with my mon. We have two children, Chris, 23, is in Gainesville and is finishing college. Tracy, 25, works in Chicago with Accenture. LOE: What about your careers and their challenges? ? LM: After I graduated from college, I got a job on TV at Fort Myers and then 32
Living
OUT EAST October 2008 went to Tampa channel 44. I eventually went into sales and construction. I now work at Custom Air as their commercial sales manager. My challenge is getting into new areas and technology. ? WR: I started out at ABC in Sarasota, moved to channel 8 in Tampa, then channel 44 and when they cut news I went into real estate with my mother and also now do the weather for ABC 7 in Sarasota on weekends. TV has been a lot of fun for me. Real estate is a challenge in adapting to the changing markets. LOE: What do you want to accomplish outside of your careers? ? WR: I subscribe to a balance theory. I am active in my church and strive to balance personal, family, spiritual, financial and business. All of them impact each other. I want to volunteer and make an impact in these areas through my church. ? LM: Besides the spiritual, I love sports and travel. LOE: What have you been reading lately? ? WR: I just read Water for Elephants and Time Traveler's Wife and I am now reading Math Doesn't Suck by Danica McKellar and the Bible again. ? LM: I don't read a lot of books but I am now reading a biography of John Adams. I read four newspapers every day on the web and lots of magazines. LOE: If you could say anything about yourself to the world, what would it be? ? WR: That I am a positive person. I have great hopes for my future. This comes through my religion. ? LM: I believe that you have to have a solid core of beliefs to get where you want to be. LOE: Are you involved in the community? ? WR: I am active through our church and with the Women's Council of Realtors. I also work seven days a week. ? LM: I am getting involved in our homeowners' association. LOE: What is your favorite room in the house and why? ? LM: The living room so I can see my ball games on TV, though I love the lanai too. ? WR: The lanai. I love being outdoors and watching the wildlife. We see a lot out here in the preserve behind our house. LOE: Why did you move out east? ? LM: We didn't plan on it. We were looking at landscape and found the Hammocks. We checked the model out and the rest was easy. We didn't downsize. LOE: What are some of your favorite out east hangouts? ? LM: Besides our lanai, we enjoy Lakewood Ranch Main Street, including the cinema and MacCallisters. LOE: If you could change one thing locally, what would it be? ? LM: I would encourage development of a zone to bring in high tech and green industries. ? WR: Our highways are too narrow and have too much congestion. LOE: If you found out that you could live healthily another 100 years because of some miraculous medical breakthrough, what would you do next? ? WR: I would love to learn to play an instrument, maybe guitar or piano and do it well. ? LM: I'd do a lot of the same things. I would love to travel to Asia and might go back to school for something.
