PHILIP CLEMO THE ROOMS YSANNE SPEVACK & PHILLIP CLEMO
Philip Clemo?s new album is a hypnotic journey into sonic space: through individual sound ?rooms? and into the places in between. It is also a journey of awakening. The album moves through moments of uncommon beauty, brooding reflection, intricate webs of textural complexity and atmospheric stillness. 22 individual musicians contributed to The Rooms, including B J Cole (pedal steel), Henry Lowther (flugelhorn and trumpet), Chloë Goodchild (voice), Theo Travis (saxophone and flute), Clive Bell (Asian flutes) and the Prague String quartet. Each performer?s contribution was recorded individually, edited heavily, and distilled down to the essence of that event. The sessions, recorded in Prague and the UK, were often long and intense, bringing out extraordinary qualities in the performances. The sessions were recorded by veteran sound engineer Phill Brown, who has worked with Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Bob Marley, Talk Talk and Dido amongst many others. Clemo sought out Brown since he felt he would understand the particular quality of sound he was after. Clemo and Brown chose studios very carefully and used vintage sound desks and valve microphones alongside the latest digital technology to carefully craft the exquisite sound of ?The Rooms?.
