As Brownies move through these nine steps, the Quest Master Map offers a visual record of their progress along the Quest. The girls have their own mini version of the Quest Map in their book.
At the end of the Quest, the girls also earn the journey?s culminating award?the
Brownie Quest Award.
This is the master lock that needs all three of their keys in order to open. Through this award, the Brownies come to see that, together, their three keys?Discover, Connect, and Take Action?unlock the meaning of leadership.
AWARDS ALONG THE QUEST WHAT IF A GIRL MISSES AN AWARD STEP? Find a way for her to do something similar to what she missed so she can still earn the award with her Team. If she misses the day that the Team heads home to take part in a family activity, she can do the activity after a later session and still share her results with the Team. (And if a girl forgets to bring back an activity, or her family hasn?t had a chance to do it with her, she can do it at a later time; or you can help her think of some other ways to accomplish something similar.) If a girl misses the Brownie Brainstorm or Brownie Team Trade, she can still offer up her own ideas to the Team. If she misses some Take Action time, she can take the lead in a followup step, such as talking with the other members and sharing what they learned. When girls miss a meeting, your goal is to assist them in finding ways to have the same learning and growing opportunity?and to understand how they can contribute to the Team. Girls may not have the exact same experience but they can each take away new insights, connections, and a sense of accomplishment. As you guide girls through meaningful challenges, you might call on the full Team of Brownies to brainstorm together about how girls who miss some steps can best get back on track with the journey. 9
