'Unique is Normal'

Story and Photos by Kathryn Lewis

Unofficially,

Stone County is the mural county of MS - boasting sixteen murals throughout the community! Newest additions include two murals in Wiggins. The "Timber Tough" tile mosaic at Blaylock Park was created by mural artist Elizabeth Veglia, MGCCC Art Teacher Sandra Cassibry and her 3-D college art students. The sixteenth mural was painted by Hattiesburg artist Kym Garraway and is located in the recently completed children's section of the Wiggins Library; it honors the life of Storyteller and lover of books, Norma Jean Lewis (1928-2010). Pinenut, a fox squirrel, leads the viewer of the mural throughout the eco system of our community. This mural also celebrates the book,"Longleaf and Me...A-Z", and includes elements of each letter from the book. The book and workbook continue to be a popular addition to the school curriculum. This is a book created by students for students honoring this place called 'Home'. (Above) Detail from "Timber Tough" mural. What happens

when Tim Bergman (Gulf Coast Symphony Director) conducts professional musicians and music students from Perkinston Elementary, Gautier Elementary and the Gulf Coast Youth Symphony? Great music! Spring concerts on the Perkinston Campus of MGCCC celebrate the Carnegie Hall "Link Up Program," creating wonderful music together. www.seesouthms.com Late Summer 2010 * 121
