By Nancy Evans | CITYWOMAN ISSUE ELEVEN: JULY/AUGUST 2010 www.citywoman.ca 36 36 | CITYWOMAN This contemporary living room offers suggestions for creating an oasis of calm in a hectic world. What makes this home a haven of cool comfort? 1 2 3 Photo by Jason Brown A soothing colour scheme of lavender walls and cream upholstery and trim sets the tone here. Temperatures actually feel lower, and time seems to slow down in a space decorated in cooler hues. The colours aren't too cool for a northern climate, though, and this room is cozy when a winter day ices up the large windows. Lavender is really blue mixed with a bit of red (a hot colour) and cream is a warm version of white. Touches of orange in the painting and the wood of the stools add more heat to the colour scheme. Order is another stress reducer, so a relaxing space is usually spare and well-organized... think of a spa or a yoga studio. The accessories here are large with clean lines or gathered together neatly to minimize visual clutter.
